Our esteemed reporter Evan interviewed former Hammer great Matthew Etherington last night prior to the massive London derby with his former club Tottenham Hotspur.
Matthew played 183 times for the club between 2003-2009, scored 17 goals and had 16 assists and is most fondly remembered for his performances in the Cup Final and playoff games for the Irons and winning ‘Hammer of the Year’.
Matthew confirmed that there was only one club he was cheering for tonight and that was West Ham considering how fond he still is of the club and how close he is to current Hammers legend and best friend, James Collins.
He believes that the club is in the best shape it has ever been under the current ownership of Gold and Sullivan and under new Manager Slaven Bilic. He also wan’t too far off with his prediction of the game’s outcome stating 2-1 or 3-1 to West Ham.
Matthew was full of praise for Slaven Bilic and stated that some of the current players at the club can’t speak more highly of him. The way he wants the players to play and the way he speaks to them, it’s just a really exciting time to be a West Ham fan.
He also thinks that Dimitri Payet is the best player he’s seen at the club since Paolo Di Canio or Carlos Tevez.
