West Ham v Southampton – Preview

After a long wait we managed to get a long over due win against Accrington Stanley, hopefully this can be the springboard we need to kick start our season and start climbing the table.
There has been a lot of negativity at the club recently, regarding stadium, results, injuries for example. But I firmly believe that once we get a couple of wins under our belt a lot of this will be forgotten and hopefully we can focus on positives.
Southampton are our guests tomorrow afternoon, who have also started the season a little slowly although recent results suggest they may have turned the corner winning their last 3 games in the Premier League, Euro League and the League Cup with Charlie Austin in particular scoring goals.
Southampton are in 14th position in the league currently 2 points ahead of West Ham with 1 win 2 draws and 2 defeats in their first 5 games. They will be without Jay Rodriguez and Jeremy Pied. While Sofiane Boufal could make his debut if he has recovered from a knee injury in time.
West Ham will continue to be without Andre Ayew, Andy Carroll, Aaron Cresswell and now it looks as if our other left back Masuaku will also be missing after picking up an injury midweek. One of either Arbeloa or Byram will probably fill in at left back with the other playing on the other flank. Let’s hope we don’t pick up any more injuries in the full back positions. Winston Reid should be back from the injury that saw him miss the clash at the Hawthorns.
West Ham’s form obviously hasn’t been good with the defence being strongly criticised in our recent league games having conceded 8 in our last 2 fixtures but the clean sheet midweek was very welcome. Going forward we need to replicate the first 35 mins of the Watford game, where I felt we looked really good for unfortunately the only time this season.
Predicted line ups.
West Ham United : Randolph, Arbeloa, Reid, Ogbonna, Byram, Kouyate, Noble, Antonio, Lanzini, Payet, Zaza
Southampton : Forster, Van Dijk, Fonte, Bertrand, Soares, Tadic, Romeu, Davis, Clasie, Long, Redmond
I have changed the keepers over as I think a small shake up in the defence is needed some people may think that Oxford having missed out midweek might make a start tomorrow but I can’t see it just yet. I think the midfield is the strongest we have and up front Zaza needs to have a good game with Fletcher coming on if he isn’t.
I will be happy with another clean sheet in this game so will go for a 1-0 win with Zaza getting the goal to round off a happy weekend for the Hammers.
