Personal Information

Bjorn Engels

Age: 22 years

Height: 6 ft 4 in

Positions : Centre Back

Nationality: Belgium

Current Team: Club Brugge

Background

Born in Kaprijke , Belgium , Bjorn has represented Belgium since the U17 national squads.

He has struggled with injuries a bit but I feel he will overcome that and become a future star defender.

He is thought of as a leader in defence and highly rated in Belgium , he is one of many rising future stars there.

He could be the next player to move abroad and follow in the footsteps of Vertonghen, Alderweireld.

Style of play

Bjorn Engels was born to defend.

He is a tall, strong guy who puts his body on the line and doesn’t give strikers an easy time.

Dominant in the air, very good concentration and tough tackling.

He is consistent and built for the Premier League, also shown early signs of good leadership skills which help teammates around him to up their game.

He is a decent passer of the ball and I believe another rising star who could do well once he gets a move into a bigger league in Europe .

For a centre back his passing success rate is very good, usually over 80%…. doesn’t just hoof the ball, he looks to play it out when possible.

I always prefer centre backs who possess important defending skills along with being good on the ball.

That’s what I believe is required more & more these days in modern football.

It’s also important foreign centre backs handle the physical side of the game in the Premier League, it’s crucial for them to enjoy that side of the game as well.

Engels would relish that and thrive on and become a fan favourite for a club in the Premier League.

He has an excellent work ethic and strong mental toughness.

It’s known he would also join a mid-table club rather than going to a top club and not playing as much.

He wouldn’t cost the world and would be a great bargain.

Would be a great signing who would get better season after season.
