Personal Information
Gelson Martins

Age: 21 years

Height: 5 ft 8 in

Positions : Winger

Nationality: Portuguese

Current Team: Sporting CP

Background
Born in Praia , Cape Verde , Gelson spent his youth career at Benfica’s academy before moving to Sporting’s in 2010.

Gelson has enjoyed international experience with the youth teams starting with Portugal U18.

Highly rated, now being capped 4 times at Senior level, many are dubbing him the new Nani.

Style of play
Gelson is very quick & agile, he has great acceleration and pace.

Similar to the Nani who had a great impact at Man Utd and I believe he could do the same for another Premier League team.

He is very tricky and quick, hard to tackle.

His skill and athleticism make him a nightmare for full backs.

I would say a major step up from a player such as Victor Moses, who did ok at first for West Ham.

He will run with the ball and get down the flank where his creativity becomes a problem for the opposition.

He has all the attributes needed to be an out & out winger who will also score goals.

Gelson is a player much needed at West Ham, I feel we need a player such as Gelson to become more dangerous and effective in the final third.

A direct threat who will beat players no problem and give us a weapon who will cause any team a problem.

He has great off the ball movement, defences need to be alert.

When you have a player like Gelson in your side it’s a great positive.

From wide areas he will provide good service and work hard off the ball, very good crossing.

A striker would get a mixture of service from him, crosses or through balls inside, versatile & already pretty efficient in his overall play.

He protects the ball well and would be a player who would do well in the Premier League.

He has a good determination about him, always gives his all and will work hard for his manager.

At 21 years old he still have room for improvement, he is at a very good level already and could well become a well known star in the future.

If you haven’t seen Gelson play…. he would be one well worth watching.
