So, our defeat last weekend may have been our biggest opening day defeat since 2002-03 (0-4 vs Newcastle); the season we suffered our first relegation from the Premier League, but let’s stay positive! In all honesty, United have a tremendous squad and I can’t see them dropping many points at home this season. Where Robbie Savage has predicted them as potential winners http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/robbie-savage-premier-league-predictions-10931106

We travel to the south coast this weekend to face a Southampton side who struggled against Swansea last time out. The Saints attempted 29 shots against the Swans, but only two of these were on target. With this in mind, under 2.5 goals is worth looking into at 19/20 with Betway. It’s also worth noting that Soton have failed to score in their last six home Premier League games – only Manchester City have ever had a longer drought in the competition (eight games between January-May 2007). We’re a tempting 4/1 with our sponsors to keep a clean sheet. That’d be a nice way for Winston to celebrate a new six-year contract!

Let’s not forget that we won this fixture 3-1 last season. If you fancy a repeat of that scoreline, it’s available at a generous 33/1. On paper that looks decent value, but please bear in mind that we last won consecutive away league games against Southampton in December 1952. I must admit, I do believe we’re a tad overpriced at 4/1 though.

Since the start of last season, St. Mary’s has seen fewer goals than any other Premier League stadium (excluding promoted sides), with just 38 goals being scored in 20 games at the ground (F17 A21). This stat backs up the value in the 19/20 on offer for under 2.5 goals. St. Mary’s has also seen more goalless draws (5) than any other ground in that time. If we’re looking at the game solely on these stats, and with our heart screaming a West Ham win, it has to be a 1-0 or 2-0 victory doesn’t it?! You can enjoy 11/1 and 22/1 respectively on each of those scorelines.  You can see the latest team news for the match here:  https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2017/august/18-august/southampton-v-west-ham-united-all-you-need-know

Let’s take a quick look at some potential goalscorers before I sign off. Chicharito will be desperate to get off the mark as soon as possible, as will Arnautovic. They’re available at 15/2 and 9/1 respectively to bag the opener, 5/2 and 3/1 anytime. Mark Noble, who netted in our 3-1 in February, has scored more league goals versus Southampton than any other team (5). Betway have priced him up at 14/1 to score first, 11/2 anytime. What am I going for? I can’t ignore that under 2.5 goals price, so that’s my bet for the weekend on this fixture. If you’re looking for a bigger price, we’re 23/20 in the Double Chance market! Good luck with your picks!

I hope nobody backs all three of those goalscorers as they have to be worth over 95% of West Hams goals between them for them to all be value.
