Most people have said that our last game out with Bournemouth was quite a fair result. I was unable to see the game but couldn’t help feel a bit disappointed especially after our recent run of form. I was also more concerned that we had managed, not only to get a couple more injuries but injuries to key players. This is leaving our squad a little bit stretched. But what else is new? It’s not exactly the 1st time we have had this problem.
Moving on to this weekend where we play against our friends Wigan Athletic. I still remember the fuss they made during the Tevez affair and I’m also happy to see them as far down the leagues as they are. But they are playing well at the moment and are currently top of league 1 undefeated in their last 6 games and looking good for promotion unfortunately. They managed to dismantle our opponents from last week 3-0 and will probably relish the chance to take beat another Premier League team .
We are on a good run of late but certainly not out of any relegation worry as the teams at the bottom all seem to be picking up points at the moment. Unbeaten in 5 league game and plus the 2 games against Shrewsbury we should feel just as confident as Wigan on current form but of course the main question will be how serious does David Moyes want to take this game. He didn’t fancy the Carabou cup this year but I think he should be going all out for the cup as winning would bring confidence to the team and keep our run going.
Wigan have a few injuries going into the game and may also rest players for their promotion challenge this year. New signing from Scotland Jamie Walker is back in the squad while Macdonald is out and James Vaughan is cup-tied.
West Ham have injuries all over the place but the good news is that Fonte and Antonio have started training again which will be a big boost to the team, but not soon enough for today. While Lanzini, Carroll, Arnautovic, Reid, Fernandes and my friend Sakho injured or unavailable. Cresswell did pick up a small knock in our last game but it is not considered to be serious and I have just heard that Declan Rice will also miss this game.
Predicted Line ups:
Wigan Athletic: Jones, Perkins, Bruce, Dunkley, Elder, Morsy, Power, Massey, Roberts, Colclough, Grigg
West Ham United: Hart, Zabaleta, Byram, Burke, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Masuaku, Obiang, Cullen, Martinez, Hernandez.
We seem very short up front and I expect at least 1 more signing to go with our new loan acquisition who should make the bench today. with one eye on the Tuesday League game against Crystal Palace I think Moyes will hope we get a lead early on so he can replace important players as early as possible. (3 goals in the 1st 20 mins please) He has already mentioned how the league is more important this year so I don’t think he will really go for it as much as he should. I think this will probably be won by the odd goal and hopefully its us. Wouldn’t it be nice to see Martinez get the winner.
