Through to the next round go the mighty Hammers after a decent win against Newport County who were unlucky to not get at least one goal against us. Oxford away awaits us in the next round so hopefully an equally strong team will see us through again.
The Hammers return to the London Stadium after 3 away games and 4 points. We welcome Norwich City who have surprised many people by getting promoted last season and so far they have managed to show that they are capable of performing at this level.
In their 3 games this year, they have come up against some good teams in Liverpool, and Chelsea and performed well but ultimately lost both games. But they did get a good win against Newcastle which puts them on just the 3 points so far this year. But they do have a secret weapon in the leagues top striker Teemu Pukki. The problem Norwich have is keeping the goals out.
Including the cup game we are now undefeated in 3 games and the longer this goes on the more confidence will be shown by the players and by picking up points early I feel this will allow our players to play with less pressure and we will see the best of them. The news of Lanzini signing a new contract will undoubtedly boost him and the squad for today’s match.
The only real news regarding injuries is that Antonio will be missing for a while after limping off midweek. Hopefully with the depth we now have in the squad we don’t need to rush him back. But it does give other players Fornals, Snodgrass and Yarmolenko a chance to show why they are at the club. The only other player who is out is I think Reid but no idea on his injury or if we will ever see him in Claret and Blue again.
Norwich will be missing Timm Klosse and Grant Hanley. But could welcome back Zimmerman, Tettley and Drmic.
Predicted Line Ups :
West Ham United : Fabianski, Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Rice, Noble, Yarmolenko, Lanzini, Anderson, Haller.
Norwich City : Krul, Lewis, Godfrey, Zimmermann, Aarons, Trybull, Leitner, Cantwell, Steipermann, Buendia, Pukki.
As I do most weeks I’m going to predict a West Ham win against a team that will try to play football against us and come up short. I’m sure Haller will be licking his lips at the Norwich defence and I expect another 2 goals from him plus a couple more from Anderson and Lanzini. I think Norwich will get 1 goal back but it will only be a consolation goal at the end of the game. I like the fact we can put out the same team in consecutive weeks and long may that continue. Make players really work hard and impress to get back in the team. While keeping players on their toes and hungry. The players already in the team know that they need to produce on the pitch to stay in. COYI
