Saturday night’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace was a tough one to take for West Ham, who will feel they should have taken all three points. Missed chances and suspect defending were to blame for the defeat and the player performances ranged from very good to majorly disappointing.

Here are the ratings:

Roberto – 5

A first league start for the Spaniard brought some poor distribution and no standout saves.

Ryan Fredericks – 8 – MOTM

Fredericks looked solid defensively all game and even blocked a shot off the line to stop a certain goal. Flew forward effectively and grabbed the assist for our solitary goal with an accurate pass in the box.

Issa Diop – 5

Defended relatively well for the majority of the game but a lack of concentration from Diop led to Ayew losing the Frenchman, allowing him to grab the winner late on.

Angelo Ogbonna – 6

Another decent, if not spectacular, display from the Italian who is in no danger of losing his starting place anytime soon.

Aaron Cresswell – 6

Coped relatively well with Zaha for most of the game but could definitely have provided more threat going forward as we tried to break down a resolute Palace side.

Declan Rice – 6

A silly error from the usually dependable Rice threw away West Ham’s lead, but he will learn. However, some instrumental passing in the build up to our goal shows how he is improving in the attacking phase.

Mark Noble – 6

A typical Mark Noble performance. Plenty of pressing and ambitious passing but unfortunately his teammates could not show the same desire, so all his work was to no avail.

Andriy Yarmolenko – 5

After a brilliant few weeks the Ukrainian struggled to impact the game before being taken off for Jack Wilshere late on.

Manuel Lanzini – 6

Tried his best to get on the ball but found himself dropping too deep to receive it and cause a genuine threat. Should have done better with a shot from the edge of the box.

Felipe Anderson – 7

Many fans have slated the Brazilian’s performance against Palace. However, it was actually very complete. Anderson made three dribbles as well as six tackles and was generally influential throughout.

Sebastien Haller – 7

Took his goal well but definitely should have had a brace as he missed a sitter in the first half. His usually brilliant passing was poor too; just 60% of his passes found teammates.

Subs:

Pablo Fornals – 5

Something just isn’t working for Fornals at the moment. He struggled again and it will not be long before the number 18 showing up on the fourth official’s board will be met with groans as fans lose their patience. He needs to improve soon.

Jack Wilshere – 6

A quiet cameo bar one flash of brilliance as he broke into the box before his unselfish pass to Haller was cut out due to some excellent reading from Van Aanholt.

Pablo Zabaleta – 6

Looked fine when he came on but did not have enough to do to warrant giving him any more or less than a 6.
