Everybody loves player ratings. They give that little bit of insight after a match to indicate who were the standout performers and who will likely be warming the bench the following week. Post-match player ratings are a feature we always provide, so it only seemed fitting to write a post-season player ratings piece too.
Every player who has played in the Premier League for us this season will be marked and bear in mind that we did finish a disappointing 16th, therefore these may not be the most generous of ratings.
So, here are The West Ham Way’s end of season player ratings!
Lukasz Fabianski: 6
Last season’s Hammer of the Year has struggled with injuries this term and hasn’t looked his brilliant self since returning, making a couple of uncharacteristic errors in the process.
Darren Randolph: 5
Randolph only played two games for us following his January return, however he conceded 5 in those 2 so we’ll follow suit and give him a 5.
David Martin: 7
5 games, 2 clean sheets and 1 MOTM. Martin exceeded expectations and his charisma in the dressing room cannot be underestimated.
Roberto: 0
Let’s just not talk about it. Please.
Ryan Fredericks: 5
Fredericks has been inconsistent since his arrival and he still has major flaws in his game.
Ben Johnson: 7
It is hard to judge a player off of three appearances; however Johnson has played above his age in all three games he’s played and could have solved one half of our full-back crisis.
Jeremy Ngakia: 6
Like Johnson, Ngakia looked very solid in his limited game-time and his departure could come back to bite us if he kicks on.
Pablo Zabaleta: 4
He has hardly played and when he has, he has sadly shown his age. A great servant and character, nonetheless.
Issa Diop: 5
A backwards step for Issa this year as he has looked far less composed than last season.
Fabian Balbuena: 4
If Diop has taken one step backwards, Balbuena’s taken 5. Moyes has no interest in keeping the Paraguayan international.
Angelo Ogbonna: 9
Without Angelo, we would be playing in the Championship next season. Countless blocks and infinite clearances, Ogbonna has nailed down his place as our best Centre-Back.
Aaron Cresswell: 5
His three goals were important, which save him from an embarrassing rating. However, he has cost us games single-handily and should not be starting next season.
Arthur Masuaku: 4
A headless chicken comes to mind at times. Arthur will be shown the door this Summer.
Mark Noble: 6
If the season ended in March, this would have been a 4. But the Skipper’s post-lockdown form has been sensational. Nobes has created 32 chances since the restart, which is the third most in the league!
Declan Rice: 9
The Hammer of the Year for a reason. His leadership cannot be questioned, his defensive ability is up there with the best and his confidence on the ball is growing with every game. Declan is our best player and will be our captain very soon.
Jack Wilshere: 2
We have seen 212 minutes of Jack this season and I would forgive you for not remembering a single thing he has done for us this season.
Carlos Sanchez: 2
Thankfully we only saw Sanchez for 113 minutes this term. Those 113 were characteristically abysmal for those wondering.
Tomas Soucek: 8
Soucek played 12 matches and was genuinely being touted as a Hammer of the Year contender. The influence he has had on the team cannot be ignored. He and Declan make a brilliant duo in the middle and they bring out the best in each other.
Robert Snodgrass: 7
Our unsung hero this season. Snoddy has been involved in 10 goals this season and has been as energetic as ever.
Andriy Yarmolenko: 6
De Ja Vu struck and injuries unfortunately hit again and Yarmo was left waiting for his chance, but the break came, and he thrived, offering a different style to our other attackers. Plus, he scored that goal against Chelsea, that’s enough for a 6 on its own.
Jarrod Bowen: 8
What a signing. His energetic and powerful running partnered with his crossing ability and desire to score have made him an instant favourite of Moyes and fans alike. If he kicks on even further next season, we will be saying £20 million was too cheap.
Manuel Lanzini: 4
He started the season well enough, and then seemed to immediately give up. More injuries occurred and Fornals left him in the dust. His half-hearted display on the final day shows he already has one foot out the door.
Felipe Anderson: 5
He hasn’t been half as bad as people have made out. However, following a promising first season he seems to have lost all confidence and it is the right time to cut our losses, unfortunately.
Pablo Fornals: 7
Hard-working? Check. Good passer? Check. Growing in confidence? Check. There is a lot to like about Fornals and with a good full-back behind him he could become a real star.
Nathan Holland: 5
31 minutes is not much to go by, but he is a promising player who has just been nominated for the PL2’s player of the year so let’s keep our hopes high for Nathan.
Michail Antonio: 8
He is about to be named the Premier League’s first ever July Player of the Month and his goals have saved us from the drop. A poor start to the season by his standards was saved by world-class post-lockdown form. His versatility and importance to us cannot be played down.
Sebastien Haller: 6
When he is left isolated, he is poor. But, when he played with Bowen, Antonio and Fornals prior to his injury, he looked completely rejuvenated. With the right signings this Summer, he could easily hit over 15 goals for us.
Albian Ajeti: 1
0 starts and 2 managers who haven’t trusted him at all.
Javier Hernandez: 5
He played 2 games and scored 1 goal. If his wages weren’t so high, he could’ve been worth keeping in hindsight.
