Player Ratings v Spurs

Less a game of two halves and more one of two fifteen minute periods, in which both us and Spurs alternately scored three times. It’s a quite fabulous comeback when we looked down and out on the canvas after 16 minutes, but the manner in which we did it was quite extraordinary. In truth we played poorly for much of the game, particularly the first half, but showed a lot of character to respond so late on having upped our game in the second half

Fabianski – 6 little chance with any of the goals but made an important block from Son at 0-3

Coufal – 6 seemed unsure whether to play narrow or wide first half and ended up doing neither very well, but much better second half with an assist for our second goal

Ogbonna – 6.5 gave the ball away cheaply in the build up to Spurs’ third and got skinned by Bale late on, but another who had a decent second half and role in the equaliser cannot be underestimated

Balbuena – 6 torrid first half where failed to show Son outside for the opening goal and looked like Bambi on ice at times, but upped his game second half with a lovely header for our first goal, although first signs of the door re-opening for Diop

Cresswell – 7 culpable for letting Kane free for his header but otherwise did well and two set piece deliveries leading to our first and third goals were pivotal

Rice – 7 struggled first half, allowing Kane to nutmeg him for the second but controlled pace of game second half and helped maintain second half pressure which eventually earned us a point

Soucek – 6 got caught in no man’s land for much of the first half but steadier second period, arguably his weakest game for us so far

Bowen – 6.5 saw a lot of the ball although never got behind the Spurs defence, vital charge down in build up to our second goal

Fornals – 5.5 anonymous first half and missed a great headed opportunity from 4 yards out early second, will have better days but will be looking over his shoulder given Benrahma’s arrival

Arthur – 6 no impact first half but neat and tidy second repeatedly making headway down the left wing

Antonio – 5.5 not one of his better days well shackled by the Spurs defence

Yarmolenko (77mins for Antonio) – 6 didn’t see much of the ball but lovely reverse pass to put in Coufal for the assist and also a crucial arm on Bale to stop him scoring a fourth

Lanzini (77mins for Fornals) – 7 won free kick that led to the first goal and there are no words that can do justice to his 94th min equaliser, the kind of shot you just dream about, simply world class

Snodgrass (90 mins for Arthur) no rating (given lack of time on field) but won free kick that led to our third before losing the ball to Winks soon after that, which worked so well in our favour!
