A brave performance which arguably deserved a point and one vital moment where concentration levels dropped ultimately did for us. Now we need to make sure we maintain team performance against Fulham and Sheff Utd as otherwise the eight points gained from a tough opening set of fixtures will mean very little.
Fabianski – 6 a couple of worrying handling errors first half but no real chance with either goal

Coufal – 7 consistent effort again with another solid display at the back, however let Jota run off him for Liverpool’s winner

Balbuena – 7.5 made some important interceptions first half and on this showing Diop will be benched again for Fulham

Ogbonna – 7.5 yet again marshalled the defence well, did little wrong

Cresswell – 7 another consistent performance and a pivotal part of why we are so solid at the back just now

Arthur – 6.5 will be disappointed with soft pen given away but managed to track Alexander Arnold most of the match which saw the Liverpool right back unusually knock hardly any balls into our box

Soucek – 7 offensively we saw little of him but protected defence ever so well

Rice – 7 several recoveries when we were under pressure but also got caught wrong side a couple of times giving free kicks away in dangerous positions

Bowen – 6.5 another game in which he threatened to create but never quite delivered, got into a couple of good positions but not supplied (see next review…)

Fornals – 6.5 took goal ever so well and ran his socks off but culpable for not playing in Bowen when well positioned on one occasion in each half, and also early effort second half looked better left for Bowen

Haller – 5 not the comeback we had hoped for, a quiet game and again looked largely disinterested and ineffective

Yarmolenko (74 mins for Haller) – 6 put in the effort and one super break out second half but culpable for cheaply losing possession in initial build up to Liverpool winner

Lanzini; Benrahma (88 mins for Arthur and Bowen) – no marks as not on long enough, not sure Lanzini actually saw the ball at all while Benrahma only touched it twice (the first touch good, the second in the dying seconds not so good), hopefully both will get more match time going forward
